Run For Haiti – Mohawk Hudson River Marathon, 2015

I will be among 900 racers participating in 2015 Mohawk Hudson River Marathon set for October 11, 2015. While crossing the finish line with my legs still attached is always a personal goal, the more important objective this year is to raise awareness and a few dollars for the Lamp Foundation (Lamp for Haiti).

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, one of the poorest countries in the world. 80% of Haitians live on less than $1.00 per day and 50% of the people lack access to basic health care services. “The Lamp”, founded in 2006, operates in Cite Soleil, a large slum in the Haitian capital of Port–au–Prince. Lamp’s dedicated staff delivers primary and urgent health care and provides educational and humanitarian aid to local residents.

The Race

The Mohawk Hudson River Marathon takes place in Albany New York, approximately 2.5 hours north of New York City. The race is point-to-point run along the Hudson River. Racers are transported up the river to Schenectady for an 8:30AM start time. The course follows a foot path and residential side roads back to downtown Albany. October weather can be unpredictable but as long as the snow holds off we should be fine!

Rarely does a week go by where a friend or colleague isn’t asking for donations for some worthy cause. Hopefully I am the only one landing in your inbox this week! The Lamp is special; its founders had a clear mission – build a sustainable and affordable healthcare facility to serve some of the world’s most impoverished people. Past fundraising efforts have contributed substantially to the Lamp’s long term goals. The Run For Haiti event is building on this momentum.

Although completing a marathon is a challenge, it pales in comparison to the race for survival the people of Haiti face every day. Contribute to the cause by visiting the Lamp for Haiti website: www.lampforhaiti.org. Look for the Run for Haiti button.

Your continued support for the Lamp is appreciated; together we can make a difference.

With Sincerest Thanks,

Patrick
